Privacy Policy
Who we are
GuestLens is operated by Petter Vang Brakalsvålet ("we", "us"), the data controller responsible for your personal data. For any privacy question, data request, or to report abuse, contact guestlens@braka.dev.
This policy is governed by the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR (Regulation 2016/679).
Data we collect
GuestLens lets people share photos and videos at an event. Depending on whether you are a host or a guest, we process:
- Account details — for hosts: email address and display name. For guests: a display name you enter, and an anonymous account identifier (no email needed to join).
- Photos and videos you capture or upload to an event, including the file and its metadata (uploader name, dimensions, duration, file size, type).
- Event activity — when you joined, how many items you uploaded, and co-host email addresses if a host invites co-hosts.
- Purchase history — if a host buys a storage plan, the plan purchased (payment itself is handled by Apple; we never see your card details).
- Analytics and diagnostics — anonymised usage events and, if enabled, crash reports. These are not linked to your account identity.
- Technical data — IP address and device identifiers, collected automatically by our infrastructure provider to deliver and secure the service.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To run your account and event (host email/name, event data, co-host access, purchases) — performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- To let you join an event and upload media (guest name, photos, videos) — your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), given when you enter your name and choose to upload. You can withdraw it by deleting your content or account.
- To improve and secure the app (anonymised analytics, crash data, technical data) — our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in a working, reliable service.
GuestLens does not perform facial recognition and does not use your photos to train AI. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
Where your data is stored and who processes it
GuestLens uses cloud services to store and deliver your data. Our processors are:
- Google Firebase (Google Cloud) — hosting, database, file storage, authentication, and analytics.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple (if you use it) and App Store in-app purchases.
These providers act as our processors under data processing agreements. Your data may be processed outside the UK/EU, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK extension) and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Who can see your content
Photos, videos, and your name in an event are visible to the host, co-hosts, and other guests of that same event. They are not public and are not shared with anyone outside the event, except our processors above and where required by law.
How long we keep it
Event data and media are kept for the lifetime of the event and are automatically purged after the event's retention period ends. Account data is kept until you delete your account. Anonymised analytics may be retained longer as they no longer identify you.
Your rights
Under the UK/EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, export (portability), restrict, or object to our use of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time.
- Deletion — open Settings in the app and choose Delete Account. This deletes your account record and removes your name from your uploads; events you solely own are deleted entirely. (Note: storage-plan purchases are consumable and non-refundable.)
- Access, export, or any other request — email guestlens@braka.dev and we will respond within one month.
If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or to your local EU supervisory authority.
Children's privacy
GuestLens is not directed at children. Use by minors depends on parental guidance. The app does not check or collect age-related data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always available at this URL, and the "last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
